Special to The PREVIEW
Curtains Up Pagosa (CUP) is entering the final weeks of a 10-week rehearsal period of song, dance and scene work in anticipation of an opening night of Thursday, Nov. 15, at 7 p.m. on its home stage at Pagosa Springs High School.
“Nutcracker the Musical,” with book and lyrics by Debbie Meyer, tells the classic tale of the Nutcracker and Mouse King alongside the beautiful music of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. CUP’s “Nutcracker,” Pagosa style, will be presented in partnership with more than 100 local dance students.
Some of the wonderful cast includes actors portraying rats, mice, peasants, soldiers, a page, angels and more: Eileen Bartig, Joy Wiersma, Leela Simpson, Karissa Foster, Nina Smith, Charity Domingo, Hope Domingo, Jaiden Lokey, Avari Pacheco, Anja Nasralla, Olivia Mazur, Paulette Heber and Maverick Webb.
CUP performs with live volunteer musicians in the pit, led by Music Director Robert Neel and Assistant Music Director and Accompanist Dale Scrivener. It is always a joy to sit back and listen to our orchestra.
Our tech crew is led by soundmasters Gavin Kiker and Carly Owen, lightmaster Megan Foster and stage managers and crew Susie Tanner, Jessica Tanner and Chris Weigand, without whom we could not produce our shows. All of our techs have been trained and mentored through CUP’s ongoing mentoring program, passing knowledge and skills down through almost 30 years of productions.
“Nutcracker” runs Nov. 15-18, for four shows only. The final performance on Nov. 18 is a matinee at 2 p.m. Tickets are available at the door, starting at 6:15 p.m. This is a show for all ages. Rated G. Come on out and support all of our kids and community folks working hard to present this show to Pagosa.
