He was born in Farmington, N.M., graduated from Farmington High School and received his accounting degree from BYU.
He loved Pagosa Springs and dedicated his livelihood to sharing the beauty of the area with others — building miles of roads and creating scores of home sites for the enjoyment of others in the Mill Creek, Upper Robinson, Lower Robinson, Echo Lake, Rio Blanco Valley subdivisions, Oak Hill Ranches and Friendly Forest. He loved his country and loved God, and he was instrumental in serving and leading thousands in his church community both in New Mexico and Colorado.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce; seven children: Becky, Cynthia, Taylor, Andrea, Michelle, David and James; 22 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and five brothers and sisters. He is preceded in death by his parents, James Burnham Collyer and Lily Ethel Taylor Collyer, and his grandson, Randall Marc Johnston.
A memorial service will be held Aug. 11 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints building at 19215 88th Ave. NE in Bothell, Wash. As an Army veteran of the Korean War, he will be buried at the Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, Wash., with a five-gun salute.
