Clara was born March 15, 1940, to Juan and Pablita Martinez in Pagosa Springs, Colo. She married Moises C. Martinez on June 28, 1959, at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Pagosa Springs. The family made their home in Henderson, Nev., for Moises’ career. They retired in 1998 and moved back to Pagosa Springs.

Clara was an active member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, served with the Guadalupanas (serving as the president at one point), and was a wonderful and loving grandmother. She was known as the best cook in town and always had a place at her table for others. She loved to sew, garden, go camping and arrange flowers. Her greatest pride and joy was her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Moises; her children: Ronald and Dennis Martinez, Sabrina (Craig) Mercadante and Felicia (Joseph) Vincent; her grandchildren: Noelle (Noah), Brianna, Dante, Isabella, Carmella, Quentin and Zain; her great-grandchildren: Giuseppi, John Paul and Zen; as well as her siblings: Donelia Mullis, Raymond and Jose Martinez.

She is preceded in death by her grandson Ronald “RJ” Martinez, her son John Paul Martinez, and siblings Marie Quintana, Helen Archuleta, Joe Martinez, Rosalie Higley, Margaret Hendricks and Lawrence Martinez.

A rosary will be recited on Thursday, May 10, at 6 p.m. at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, May 11, at 9:30 a.m., also at the Immaculate Heart of Mary, with burial to follow at Hilltop Cemetery.

Memorial contributions can be made to the family, who will pass it on to the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and the Guadalupanas.
