Special to The PREVIEW

“It used to be so simple: You were a boy or you were a girl.”

Those words, shared by Katie Couric, open the National Geographic documentary “Gender Revolution: A Journey with Katie Couric.”

This documentary, which explores gender identity and premiered on the National Geographic Channel on Feb. 6, will be shown at the Liberty Theatre Thursday, April 27, at 7 p.m.

This film is sponsored by the Pagosa Unitarian Univeralist Fellowship (PUUF), and a discussion of the film will follow.

Books have begun to increase society’s understanding of transgender individuals. Still, violence against “trans” people is on the rise and their civil rights remain in question. This film has the power to foster acceptance of everyone living along the spectrum of gender identity.

This event is free; however, donations will be gratefully accepted to help cover the cost of renting the theater. The concession stand will be open, and popcorn and soft drinks will be available for purchase.

PUUF is committed to inclusivity and education about the rapidly evolving complexities of gender identity. Everyone is encouraged to attend this very special evening. For further information, visit pagosauu.org or call 731-7900.
