Special to The PREVIEW

The Durango Independent Film Festival will kick off its 12th annual festival on March 1, with this year’s festival featuring special guest Jim Belushi.

The festival will kick off with Free Movie Night at the Gaslight Twin Cinema in downtown Durango on March 1. Four free film programs will screen at 6 and 8:30 p.m. Screenings are first come, first served and are free to the public, so come early.

This year, the festival features 115 films of all genres at three different festival venues: the Animas City Theatre, Gaslight and the Durango Stadium 9. This year’s films span the globe and feature films from 28 countries, including two from Pakistan.

Our special guest this year is Belushi and his band The Sacred Hearts, who will be in concert on March 4 at the Community Concert Hall in a separate ticketed event.

Tickets are available at durangoconcerts.com.

A retrospective screening of “About Last Night,” in which Belushi stars, will occur on March 4 at 11:30 a.m. at the Animas City Theatre, followed by an interview of Belushi by his “According to Jim” co-star, John Rubano.

Passes are available in a variety of price points and can be purchased at the ticket office inside the Durango Welcome Center or online at durangofilm.org. Individual tickets are available at each screening 15 minutes before show time and are $12 each. All festival screenings at the Durango Stadium 9 can be purchased at the theater and are two for $20 or $12 per individual ticket. Please visit durangofilm.org for a listing and schedule of films and other festival events.
