Between Oct. 15 and April 15, if the National Weather Service forecasts 2 inches or more of snow, sleet or freezing rain — or a storm actually produces those conditions — then parking is prohibited along the designated snow routes to allow the town’s streets crews room to plow.[/caption]While an observant eye could spy a dusting of white on the very tip of Pagosa Peak Tuesday afternoon, by yesterday morning all of the mountains surrounding Pagosa Springs were covered in snow.
In preparation for the upcoming winter season, the Town of Pagosa Springs has provided information to residents and business owners regarding proper snow-removal etiquette and responsibilities.
The town plows 30 miles of streets and roads each time there is a winter storm, and has asked for everyone’s cooperation so proper and efficient street maintenance can be accomplished. The goal is to provide snow removal in a timely manner to facilitate a safe flow of traffic for drivers and pedestrians.
Keep in mind, the town’s streets department may not be able to plow or sand roads at the same time each day, or even on the same day of the storm, depending on the severity and timing of the storm.
Remember, it is the responsibility of property and business owners to remove snow and ice from all of the sidewalks abutting their property by noon the day following the storm. However, it is unlawful to push or throw snow onto or across roadways or to put snow on any public property or right of way. Your snow must be disposed of on your own property.
While the town’s street crews make reasonable efforts to minimize the snow berm left behind by their snowplows, it is the resident’s responsibility to remove said berm.
