On Saturday evening, Oct. 10, a rescue effort took place for an unidentified man who suffered an injury while hunting in the Piedra area.

According to Thad McKain, Archuleta County’s director of emergency management, a call was received around 5 p.m. on Saturday concerning the hunter, a man in his mid-60s from Arkansas.

The man broke his right leg just above the ankle at approximately 3:30 p.m. in the area of the Hossick Lake Trail near Poison Park, reported McKain. A hunting partner of the man went for help and reported the incident using a resident’s phone.

The rescue effort was launched by the Archuleta County Division of Emergency Management and Upper San Juan Search and Rescue volunteers in coordination with the U.S. Forest Service and Hinsdale County.
