Archuleta School District (ASD) recently hired a new assistant principal for Pagosa Springs Middle School.

The position was left vacant by Justin Cowan, who was hired last month as the principal for Pagosa Springs Elementary School. Cowan’s spot will be filled by Aaron Freed, of Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minn.

Freed is currently in the process of completing his doctorate in educational leadership from Bethel University. He also holds a masters in education from Hamline University and a bachelor’s in music education from the University of Wisconsin.

Freed has worked extensively in music education as a band teacher and assistant director of the Osseo Senior High School marching band in Roseville, Minn.

Freed has also served as a department head and worked in curriculum review and implementation and behavior management.

Apart from his work in the arts, Freed remained involved in sports through a variety of positions.

In an email to The SUN, he wrote, “I look forward to combining my background in the arts with my experiences in athletics to continue providing a wide array of extra curricular opportunities to meet the interests of many students.”
