Marijuana remained a topic of conversation at last week’s Pagosa Springs Town Council meeting as Town Manager Greg Schulte asked for guidance on four more aspects of an ordinance that would allow for the licensing of retail businesses and medical dispensaries within town limits.
Schulte remains on track to present the ordinance for its first reading at the May 5 meeting. If it passes a second reading in late May, the ordinance will go into effect on June 1, when the town’s moratorium on marijuana businesses is set to expire.
According to the agenda for last Thursday’s meeting, Schulte planned to ask council to decide on four items — the requirement for marijuana cultivation operations, if a public hearing should be held for any new marijuana licenses, what fees should be associated with marijuana businesses and whether or not the town should require its own background checks for marijuana business owners and their employees.
