The March unemployment rate for Archuleta County fell by four tenths of a percentage point over the month, according to a report issued this week by the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment.

There were more people holding jobs in the county — 5,270 in March compared to 5,191 in February. Overall, there were 62 new workers into the county’s job market, including 312 people claiming unemployment, as opposed to 329 in February. This pushed the unemployment rate down from 6 percent in February to 5.6 in March.

In addition, the picture is quite a bit better than last year, when the March 2014 unemployment rate was 8.5 percent, there were only 5,099 people employed in the county and 474 who claimed unemployment.
