Special to The SUN

The cross-country ski season is coming soon. Every year, the Pagosa Nordic Club grooms many X-C trails and offers free cross-country ski clinics to residents and guests who are visiting the area.

The clinics are for beginner and intermediate skiers in either classic X-C skiing or skate skiing skills. In the past, there have been up to 45 people at the clinics and attendees are thrilled with learning techniques to improve their skiing. We are fortunate to have a number of qualified instructors right here in Pagosa Springs.

Even though there is no charge for the clinics, donations to the Nordic club are always welcome. Donations are used for trail maintenance, hosting ski clinics and ski socials.

Because of the wonderful turnout in the past, we are searching for more instructors for this year’s clinics, on Saturdays, Dec. 13, Jan. 10 and Feb. 7, beginning at 10 a.m. If you have been an instructor or are an upper level skier who would like to teach, please contact Nancy Burke at 731-5901.

We will be happy to work with you and show you the basics of X-C ski instruction progression so that you will be able to help us with the “Learn to X-C” ski clinics and share this wonderful sport and pastime with others. Just one more way to give back to our community.
