He guides us into the deep water

Luke 5:4-6, “Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught. And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net. And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake.”

All of us would like to experience more of Christ in our lives, but how many of us are willing to push the boat out into deeper water? We encourage our children to play in the shallow water till they are comfortable, then we guide them to deeper water where they can no longer touch the bottom. But we are never far away. We are there to encourage and help them should they begin to sink. Our heavenly Father desires for us to follow Him into deeper waters, where we must put our trust in Him. He will never leave us nor forsake us.

In the shallow waters, we drag on the bottom, collecting debris. We become entangled in the waste left by others. Our forward motion is slowed because of strife, greed and selfishness. We must get out of the shallow waters and push our boats into deeper waters. There we will meet Jesus and our nets will be filled with His love, joy and peace.

Following the leading of His Holy Spirit, we lower our nets and begin to gather in blessings we cannot contain. We listen to His voice, as He guides us into the deep water of a relationship with Him. Christ wants us to clean our nets of all debris, leaving all doubt and fear on the beach and launch out where He will encourage us into deeper waters of faith.
