County, town consider combining lodgers’ tax and tourism efforts

During Tuesday morning’s joint work session between the Pagosa Springs Town Council and the Archuleta County Board of County Commissioners, Town Manager Greg Schulte presented a draft of a plan to merge the lodgers’ tax revenue collected by both governments and to create a new tourism commission accountable to each body.

In the past, the county has given its lodgers’ tax to the Chamber to help run the Visitor Center and to bring in special events. However, when the TTC began cutting the town’s portion of funding for the Visitor Center in 2012, the Chamber announced it no longer wanted to be responsible for the operation.
