Monday, Sept. 15, will be Rotary Day in Pagosa Springs. Capping off the day will be an open house to which all Pagosans are invited. The event will begin at 6 p.m. at the First Southwest Bank and will provide all those who attend an opportunity to learn how Pagosa’s two Rotary clubs serve our community year-round.
Attendees can learn about Rotary’s five principal avenues of service: (1) Community Service encourages every Rotarian to find ways to improve the quality of life for people in their communities and to serve the public interest; (2) International Service exemplifies Rotary’s global reach in promoting peace and understanding by sponsoring or volunteering on international projects, seeking partners abroad, and more; (3) Youth Services recognizes the importance of empowering youth and young professionals through a variety of leadership development programs; (4) Vocational Service calls on every Rotarian to work with integrity and contribute their expertise to addressing the problems and needs of society; (5) Club Service focuses on making clubs strong. A thriving club is anchored by strong relationships and active members.
Interested individuals will be able to explore what their own opportunities for community service can be — either with the Pagosa Mountain Morning Club or with the Pagosa Rotary Club. The Pagosa Mountain Morning Club meets at 7 a.m. Wednesday mornings at the Buffalo Inn. The Pagosa Rotary Club meets each Thursday at noon at Nello’s Bistro.
Rotary is a global network of community volunteers and is one of the largest and most influential international humanitarian service organizations worldwide. Founded in Chicago in 1905, Rotary has more than 1.2 million members belonging to 33,000 clubs in more than 200 countries and geographical areas.
Anyone interested in learning about Rotary — both locally and internationally — is welcome to come to Rotary Day in Pagosa Springs. Refreshments will be served.
