The June 10 Archuleta County Republican Women’s meeting will feature two speakers: Colorado Sen. Ellen Roberts and our Mojie Adler High School Scholarship winner Zachary Ellis.

After only a few minutes conversing with Zachary Ellis, it becomes obvious why he won the scholarship. Not only is he academically a high achiever (valedictorian of Pagosa Springs High School’s class of 2014), he is also very diversified in interests and abilities, setting his goals realistically high. Most impressive is his ability to seek out additional, non-required, mentoring experiences for future career options. Our country will be in good hands with youth like Ellis.

Roberts, who previously practiced law for 20 years in Durango, continues to be a favorite speaker at ACRW because she doesn’t give “political doubletalk,” trying to please everyone. When the Senate is in session, she puts out a weekly column called “Life in the Legislature.” Here you can learn why and how she voted. She also seeks through this column new ideas from voters and welcomes divergent opinions.

As state senator, Roberts serves as ranking Republican on the Senate Health and Human Services and Legislative Legal Services committees and previously served on the Senate Judiciary and Local Government committees. She also currently serves on two interim committees: the Wildfire Matters Committee and the Water Resources Review Committee. In 2012, Ellen was chairwoman of the Lower North Fork Wildfire Commission and carried legislation creating the Wildfire Matters interim committee.

The meeting will be held at Nello’s from noon-1:30 p.m. All are welcome to come. Choose from three lunch choices for $10. Call 731-6336 for more information.
