Auditions set for ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’

By Dale Johnson
Special to The PREVIEW

“Jesus Christ Superstar,” with lyrics by Tim Rice and music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, played on Broadway in the early 1970s. It is a rock opera similar in style to “Les Miserables” in that it is all music, the story is told through music; scenes are played out through music.

Curtains Up Pagosa has been working to purchase the rights to perform this outstanding musical over the past few years; and during this, our 25th anniversary year, we have been successful.

Auditions will be held on Friday, April 25, from 2-7 p.m. in the high school band room; we already held round one of auditions in January for our out-of-town college students.

Please prepare one verse of a Broadway tune of your choice and bring sheet music, as an accompanist will be provided. A brief reading and group dance will be part of the audition process. We are actively seeking men and women of high school age and up for lead, support and superstar ensemble roles and have received a great deal of inquiry from potential cast members. We encourage our veterans, first-timers — everyone is welcome to our auditions and CUP family of performing artists.

“Superstar” will be accompanied by a full pit band; interested musicians, please contact Sally Neel at 946-6458. Come and be a part of this spectacular production with us. For further questions and information, call Dale Johnson at 731-3370.
