Pagosa to participate in Super Bowl weekend DUI enforcement

The Pagosa Springs Police Department is participating in the 2014 Super Bowl Weekend High Visibility Impaired Driving Enforcement (HVIDE) campaign. Officers will have designated traffic patrols for the enforcement period starting Jan. 31 through Feb. 3. National traffic studies confirm that increased patrols provide a “risk of apprehension” thereby reducing the number of impaired driving traffic crashes.

The Pagosa Springs Police Department wants to remind everyone that if they observe a driver they believe to be impaired to contact the Archuleta County Combined Dispatch Center at 731-2160 or dial 911.

how cute. hiding in the bushes waiting for drunks to come along. you know, because we have so many drunk driving deaths here in this little community. this ain’t a metropolitan area! the only real affect of this superbowl dui enforcement will be decreased business in our local establishments and a false appearance that the police are protecting YOU. i don’t drink, but i stay off the roads during these publicity stunts to avoid being hassled by police. i have witnessed archuleta sheriff deputies pulling people over the second they exited the parking lot of the buffalo inn just to check them out. let me tell you, that did NOT make me or anyone else feel safer. the deputy let the driver go, because he had obviously not committed any traffic violations and the unconstitutional search had not turned up anything. isn’t it nice to know that cops can get in your face, smell you and look into your vehicle just because it is the day of the superbowl and they have a publicized enforcement campaign to foster?
