Area law enforcement remains on the lookout for a fugitive who escaped from a Durango correctional facility last Thursday afternoon, Jan. 16.

Brandon Vaughn, 26, was serving a three-year community corrections sentence at Hilltop House in Durango — part of the Colorado Department of Corrections. That sentence was for a vehicle assault conviction from 2013.

Vaughn walked away from his job that he held through the facility at about 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16, said Det. Scott Maxwell of the Pagosa Springs Police Department.

Vaughn is suspected in a downtown Pagosa Springs burglary that occurred Thursday at approximately 6:30 p.m., Maxwell said. A handgun was stolen and TV set was destroyed during the incident.

The suspect was known to be armed with a handgun at the time of the alleged burglary, Maxwell indicated.

Maxwell reported that Vaughn is 6 feet tall and 205 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. He has tattoos on his arms and chest.

Do not try to apprehend the suspect, Maxwell urged.

Anyone with information is urged to call Archuleta County Combined Dispatch at 731-2160.
