You are over 250 strong.
You volunteer approximately 4,000 hours each year at an estimated value of $87,500.
You are the volunteers and supporters of CSU Extension in Archuleta County.
You are young professionals, local youth, retirees, parents, grandparents, members of local organizations and business owners.
You serve on advisory boards, train others on food safety and gardening, plan, execute and do everything at the county fair.
You share your skills with 4-H youth, lead 4-H clubs, maintain landscapes in the community, organize events and help at the Extension office. Some of you even take vacation time from jobs to help out.
You are longtime Archuleta County residents, new folks in town and everything in between.
You are members of organizations and businesses that make lunch for volunteers, donate food, supplies and services.
You are all unique, with special skills, but one thing you all share is your passion. It might be for helping the youth in our community, for protecting our natural resources, for maintaining the local heritage or for helping to grow our local economy. Whether you give us your valuable time and energy or donate money to support our programs, we couldn’t do it without you.
So, today, and every day, we thank you with tremendous gratitude and appreciation.
CPR/First Aid
Beginning Sept. 9, CPR and First Aid Certification classes will be offered monthly by the CSU Extension office from 6-10 p.m.
Anyone needing to receive or renew certification can register by calling the Extension office at 264-5931.
Classes will be held in the Extension Building at the fairgrounds on the second Monday and Wednesday of each month, with CPR on Monday and First Aid on Wednesday.
We will also attempt to schedule classes on additional dates with five or more registrations.
Cost for the classes is $80 for combined CPR/First Aid and $55 for CPR, First Aid or recertification. The type of first aid information provided will vary by the needs of the participants.
Free wood chips
Free wood chips are still available for pickup at the Archuleta County Fairgrounds on U.S. 84.
If you plan on using these chips around your home, be sure to place them at least 30 feet from your home or structure so they do not ignite in case of a wildfire.
