Everyone is welcome to attend the ACGS Genealogy Fair to be held 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, at the Methodist Church, 473 Lewis St. in downtown Pagosa Springs.
There is no charge for attending.
Several classes are being offered at the fair. The keynote speaker is Ric Morgan, a genealogist for more than 45 years. His area of expertise is genealogy DNA testing and, “What it is all about.” His talk on the subject will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday.
During the course of the class, Morgan discusses three primary areas of interest: what genealogy DNA testing is and how it works; whether you can find your ancestors using genealogy DNA testing; and how we can use genealogy DNA testing to prove or disprove family tree research. He welcomes lively discussion and questions from his audience, so come prepared with your questions.
In addition to being a genealogist, Morgan is a practicing attorney, a retired naval officer and a dairy goat farmer in Elbert, Colo.
Following Morgan’s class, there is a quick lunch, followed by afternoon classes from 12:30–1:15 p.m.: Genealogy 101 (Anna Hopkins Arnold, Ph.D.), Online Research (Jeannine Dobbins) and Hispanic Research (Eric Broderson). These classes will run concurrently. A second round of classes begins at 1:30 p.m. They are Online Research (Jeannine Dobbins); Ancestry.com (Connie Bunte); and Hispanic Research (Eric Broderson). These classes will also run concurrently.
There will be displays from Pagosa Pics, the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Family History Center at the LDS Church and The Artist Within.
