Marchand receives scholarship

Mikaela Marchand has been awarded $500 from the John E. Rieck Memorial Scholarship fund to further her post-secondary education. This scholarship is presented from the Pagosa Fire Auxiliary, Inc., and goes to a student who is, or has, an immediate family member involved with the Pagosa Fire District.

Criteria for the scholarship include academic honors, involvement in extracurricular activities, community activities and volunteer work. In addition, the applicants must have a clear explanation of future goals and why this scholarship is important to them. They must show acceptance into an institute of higher education and provide two letters of recommendation with the application.

Mikaela has been accepted to Aims Community College in Greeley, Colo., and plans to study fire science technology with the additional goal of becoming EMS certified. Long-term goals include becoming a firefighter paramedic and eventually a fire investigator.

The Pagosa Fire Auxiliary extends congratulations to Mikaela and best wishes for her future success.
