Calling the Class of 2013. Do you want to know more about, “The Secret Life of the High School Graduate?”

All graduating students and their parents are invited to join Mara Koch of Archuleta County Victim Assistance Program (ACVAP) and Shane Lucero of San Juan Basin Health (SJBH) for a free and informative evening that will help prepare them for the next steps after high school.

The 2013 High School Senior Workshop will be held Wednesday, May 15, from 6:30-9 p.m. at the Pagosa Springs Youth Center (PSYC). The event is sponsored by ACVAP and SJBH, as part of their community prevention efforts.

The evening will be filled with straightforward and honest talk in the hopes of keeping youth safe while having fun in college and after graduation. Conversation will focus on topics such as binge drinking, healthy sexuality, sexual assault and healthy relationships — all issues that graduates may face as they leave the safety of their family homes. They will also learn skills for helping to keep their friends safe in such risky situations. The workshop will provide an opportunity for youth to ask questions and get the honest information they will need to make positive choices for their future. Local college students will be joining in the conversation, keeping it current and relevant.

“We want to bring this important information to the youth in our community, so they are well-prepared for the new responsibilities that come with the new freedoms they will experience when they leave home,” said Koch and Lucero.

Contact ACVAP at 264-9075 to reserve a seat for this free and informative evening. PSYC will provide pizza for all participants to enjoy.
