Pagosa Springs Youth Center, with the support of the El Pomar Foundation, is holding a six-week starter course for 13-16 year-olds on how to prepare to go to work.

The course will deal with how to find a job, apply, interview and keep a job, and participants will meet with some of our community business leaders.

This class will be offered on Thursdays after school at 4 p.m. at the Youth Center, with some classes meeting off site. Some classes will feature guest speakers.

The goal of the program is to introduce students to the many ways of looking for employment and applying successfully as they begin to take their place in the workforce. The hope is that we begin training a workforce early, so that, as jobs open up, there many applicants prepared to apply. The course will arrange mock interviews and record them for learning purposes.

Other partners in this venture include the Chamber of Commerce, the School to Work program and SWAP (School to Work Alliance Program). Note will be taken of those students who attend the full program and a reference will be available for them.

The first class begins Thursday, April 25, 4-5:30 p.m. at the Youth Center. There is no cost, and a snack will be provided.
