The Pagosa Springs Police Department will participate in two upcoming statewide campaigns relating to traffic safety.

As part of the Click It or Ticket Rural Enforcement Campaign, town officers will increase patrols for the enforcement period, April 1-7.

The goal of Click It or Ticket is to increase seat belt use and save lives on our highways. Regular seat belt use is the single most effective way to prevent serious injuries and save people from dying in motor vehicle crashes.

The Pagosa Springs Police Department joins law enforcement agencies statewide in urging everyone to take two seconds to buckle up and safe lives.

The department is also participating in the 2013 Spring Events, High Visibility Impaired Driving Enforcement (HVIDE) campaign. Officers will increase patrols for the enforcement period, April 6-May 19, including saturation patrols for Pagosa Springs High School prom weekend April 27-28.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), in 2010, more than 10,000 people died in alcohol-impaired driving crashes — one every 51 minutes.

The Pagosa Springs Police Department wants to remind everyone that if they observe a driver they believe to be impaired, to contact the Archuleta County Combined Dispatch Center at 731-2160, or dial 911.
