The Town of Pagosa Springs Recreation Department will accept registrations for this year’s tee ball league from March 25 through April 12.

Any child who will be 5 or 6 years old as of April 1 is eligible to participate. Registrations will be available at the recreation office in Town Hall and will be dispersed at local schools, as well.

Registrations will also be available for download in Adobe format through the recreation department link at www.townofpagosasprings.com.

Cost is $30 per player and $15 for each additional child in the same, immediate family who participates. Weather permitting, the season is tentatively scheduled to begin in early May.

Coaches and sponsorships for this year’s tee ball teams are also needed and appreciated. Cost for sponsorship is $150, which includes sponsor’s name on team uniforms, commemorative plaque with team picture, and recognition in media articles.

For more information, call the recreation office 264-4151, Ext. 231 or 232.

Team and player fees are due at the start of each team’s second game. Also, numbered jerseys of similar color are required attire for participation in this year’s leagues.

Rosters may carry as many as 15 players; players are eligible to participate if they were 16 years of age or older as of March 1. Players may be added to the roster at any time throughout the season, but participants who have not paid the player fee before the start of their second game will not be permitted to play.

The season will run through early May.

Skate pond

The skate pond behind the River Center has been closed for the season.

Higher temperatures and thinning ice have resulted in unsafe conditions; please refrain from venturing onto the ice. We also ask that no foreign objects be thrown onto the ice.

Signs indicating the pond’s closure have been posted in the adjacent parking lot.

Programming

The Town of Pagosa Springs Recreation Department is in the process of evaluating the feasibility of new summer programming, clinics and workshops for local youths.

Through an ongoing partnership between the town recreation department and Ross Aragon Community Center, staff hopes to identify new possibilities for low-cost sports programming, outdoor education and arts-related endeavors. The desire is to create an introductory curriculum for next summer and implement as many new programs as the town budget allows.

The tentative plan is to utilize volunteers for as many programs as possible, but there may also be opportunities for the use of talented, specialized instructors on a part-time, compensated basis. The goal is to provide fun, educational programs for youths ages 4-10 at a reasonable cost.

Anyone interested in submitting a programming idea can contact the town recreation office at 264-4151, Ext. 232, or Cheryl Bowdridge, community center director, at 264-4152.
