Town, county give $18,000 for geothermal exploration

Imagine using geothermal energy to generate electricity locally.

Jerry Smith of Pagosa Verde made a request for $9,000 from the Pagosa Springs Town Council at its Tuesday night meeting (a request for $9,000 was also made of the Archuleta Board of County Commissioners earlier the same day), which will be used as matching funds for a grant from the State of Colorado to explore the feasibility of building a three- to twelve-megawatt power plant south of town.
