John Easton, loving husband, son, brother and stepfather, passed away in an auto accident Wednesday, Sept. 19, at 11:30 p.m., in Red Bluff, Calif.

John was born Feb. 21, 1981, in Worthington, Minn., and moved to Colorado as an infant to Summit County, graduating from Evergreen High School in 1999. 

John moved to Pagosa Springs in the spring of 2008, and married Clare Burns in April 2009.

John was an avid outdoor person and passionate wildland firefighter. He was finishing his fire season at Lassen Volcanic National Park in northern California when he passed.

John’s memorial reception will be held on Sunday, Nov. 4, at the Pagosa Brewing Company at 2 p.m. There will be a free shuttle service provided by Wilderness Journeys and community donations. Additional arrangements include the scattering John’s ashes at Cataract Lake in Summit County near the town of Heeney at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 3.

John is survived by his wife, Clare, and his daughter Lila Burns-Weerstra of Pagosa Springs, his mother and stepfather, Lori and Dave Widdifield of Heeney, Colo., his brother Nick Easton and Father Tom Easton of Bailey, Colo., and stepbrothers Alan and Jason Widdifield of Heeney.
